If you want a successful career, then you need to create goals. Without goals, you have nothing to focus on. You will not know what subjects to study; you won’t know what extracurricular activities to do to help you get to where you are going. You simply will be spinning around, unsure of what you are doing or where you are going. This is a surefire way to not succeed. Goals are the much-needed end point of a plan to accomplish something in your life. It gives you focus, which prevents you from wasting a lot of time and effort. However, it takes more than just knowing what you want; you need to be realistic, with determination and motivation too. To help you accomplish your career goes, here are a few tips:
How to Decide
When you are choosing a career goal, there are several things you need to consider. First of all, who are you? What things in life interest you? What are your likes and dislikes? You also need to know what your individual strengths and weaknesses are and then play to your strengths. Although you can do something that is not playing to your strengths, you will find it a lot more difficult, and that may hamper your determination. If you wanted to run a business, it would help if it was something that complimented you rather than worked against it. It is all about having a natural flow that feels right. This will help you succeed. Other things you should consider are the things in life that you want that aren’t related to your career. If having a family and home is important to you or traveling the world is important to you, etc. If traveling is important, then perhaps a journalist or documentary filmmaker. If family life is what interests you, then perhaps something like a doctor may be better.
Write Your Goal Down
Once you have decided what your career goal is, you need to make it real in the world. So, write it down on a piece of paper. By doing this, you are making it more of a statement of intent, something that will happen. Then put the paper somewhere you can see it every day. Maybe stick it to the fridge. By doing this, you have a constant reminder of your goal. It helps keep it in the front of your mind, and then it can seep into your subconscious. Allowing this to seep into your subconscious will help you start making better decisions with your goal in mind.

So you have your goal, a piece of paper with I want to be a doctor, or a lawyer or a personal trainer, etc., so now you need to break it down into the steps to get there. What grades do you need, and what university degree do you have to have? Do you need a Cert 3 in Fitness, etc.? Is there any voluntary work you can do to get some experience? Do you need to do this before you can go back to school? There will always be a lot of reading and other pieces to do as well. If becoming a personal trainer is something you want to do, then are you fit enough to do this? And do you like the part? If not, then you need to work at it. You need to go to the gym regularly for a start. If you want to be a chef, perhaps now is the time to start becoming experimental in the kitchen at home. Can you start networking with people who are already in the field that you want to work in? When you look into it, there will be so many things you can do to get where you are going. So, create a path, what is the very first thing you need to do, and work from there.
Reward Your Achievements
It may be a long road ahead to get to your goal, so you need to give yourself a treat along the way. Every time you hit one of your milestones, why not buy yourself something relatively special to show yourself how worthwhile it is? If you want to be a Lawyer, then celebrate when you get that grade you need to go to university. Celebrate completing your first assignment. You need a break along the way. Without mini breaks and treats, you will find it difficult to remain motivated for the duration. So, reward your mini achievements.
