One major driver in new business that many casinos use to attract new players is a casino bonus.  As a result of this rapid growth, there are quite a few career opportunities in the gambling industry.

As you might expect, gambling and casinos require many of the same technology jobs as other businesses but with a heavier focus on security, graphics, and game coding skills. Those looking for opportunities in the traditional online gaming field will find similar opportunities in online gambling.

What kind of jobs will be available?

Director of Operations

This is one of the more senior positions in casino operations. The director of operations is responsible for ensuring that all day-to-day activities run smoothly and efficiently. The job responsibilities include supervising staff, managing special events, business development and business strategy. Fraud prevention experience is also a key responsibility for this role.  Individuals should have a bachelor’s degree and should preferably have ten or more years of experience in a casino job with about five years in a managerial role.  According to glassdoor.com, the average salary earned is $86,000 per year and for those with experience, the total compensation could be above $150,000.

The Pit Boss

Pit bosses are also sometimes called casino floor managers.  The job of the pit boss is to manage the floormen, who are the supervisors for table games dealers in a casino. One pit boss monitors all floor staff, dealers, and players in the pit; there is usually one floorman for every few tables. The casino floor will have several pits and each pit operates as a separate business. The pit boss should experience either as a dealer or a casino security guard.

Some casinos may require pit bosses to have a college degree. In addition, gaming services workers must have excellent customer service skills.  The average salary for a pit boss is approximately $60,000 to $70,000. This job is a stepping-stone for climbing up the management ladder.

Casino Hosts

This position is similar to the concierge in a hospitality environment. It is undoubtedly one of the most glamorous of casino jobs. Many casinos employ a team of casino hosts whose sole job is to ensure that players enjoy their casino experience. They assist guests in getting the most out of their experience with the casino.

Casino hosts usually work for the marketing department of a casino. One of their primary responsibilities is to develop relationships with higher value players so that they not only stay at your casino longer, but they come back more to the casino often, rather than going to competing casinos. The host helps A-list clientele reservations for restaurants and shows.

According to payscale.com, the average salary of a casino host is $43,000.  They may also earn commissions and bonuses. Tips from clients are not unusual.

 Security Manager

Security managers ensure that there are no security breaches in the casino. They ensure that guests, casino employees, and casino property are all well-protected. They recruit, staff, and train security personnel.

Most casinos require at least a high school diploma, basic education in management, and a security training program.  A bachelor’s degree in business or criminal justice is required by some casinos.  Candidates who have previous experience in a private security firm will definitely have an edge over others. In some cases, CPR certification is required.

Compensation averages $63,000 per year and could reach beyond $110,000.

Internal Auditors

Many casinos have their own internal auditors. This means that the auditor only has to review the books for that company. Internal auditors essentially do detective work. They must examine the internal controls of the casino as they look for instances of mismanagement, fraud, and inaccuracy. Some auditors even try to prevent these instances.

The working hours can be quite long, depending on the time of year (such as year-end).  Internal Auditors must have a bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related subject.  Those who are Certified Public Accountants or Certified Internal Auditors will definitely have an advantage. The salary varies from $55,000 to $90,000 depending on years of experience.
