When we’re younger, we spend a lot of time thinking about what we’ll do when we’re older. We even fantasize about having a dream job; you know, the job that makes us lots of money with minimal effort over time. For some, this is easily achieved with again little effort. For others, finding that dream job is just a little harder. While you might love the idea of a profession, you might not picture yourself doing it forever.
What’s worse is that you might not even see yourself in any stereotypical position. This can lead to feelings of failure and worry that you’ll end up homeless if you don’t find some type of employment. While it’s true you do need to work to support yourself, and in today’s world you also need to consider recession proof jobs, it doesn’t mean you need to be stuck in a dead-end job for the rest of your life. You just need to find a way to create your dream job on your own. In this post, we’ll be covering how you can make your own dream job.
Think About Your Passions
Making your own career is something many aspire to, but it’s important to understand that this isn’t an overnight process. Before anyone can make the choice of finding a dream career, you need to have a good understanding of yourself first. Despite only being the first phase of this process, it can take a while for you to figure things out. Take as much time as you need to assess yourself. Think about what you want from your job. It’ll also be a good idea to take your hobbies and interests into account as those will be your primary motivators. You just need to find a way to create your dream job on your own. Find Profitable Niches
There’s probably nothing more draining than working a job that doesn’t pay well. That same premise carries over when you work for yourself as well. You need to choose a niche that’s both lucrative and enjoyable. You may love rock climbing but making a career out of it is another story. Unless you live somewhere you can become a guide or rock-climbing coach, you need to shift your attention elsewhere. Look for niches that are already successful. There are usually micro niches within that larger one you can focus on to build a business. Another good example of this would be a delivery service. While there are plenty of already established ones out there, what could you do differently?
You can create a business that helps pet owners take their dogs and cats to the vet. Over time, you might even have a small fleet that you need to keep track of. You could make sure your vehicles pass fleet safety certification, which would also build trust with new customers. You can accomplish this by creating a safety checklist that each driver must follow. The goal is to keep your fleet intact and your drivers safe while behind the wheel.
Weigh the Pros and Cons
Even when you love what you do, there are likely to be pros and cons you need to consider. You could love working with animals but despise having to get up early to take care of them as a dog walker. On the other hand, you might enjoy working early in the morning but dislike having to work put in hours on the weekend or holidays. The best way to determine if what you choose is really the right choice is by making a list.
Write down all the positives and negatives you can think of. Take a few days to think about if there is any way to reduce the number of cons you wrote. If not, you may want to revisit the list in a few more days and determine if your chosen niche is worth trying. The last thing you want is to invest time and money into a startup that has too much against it to thrive.
Start Building an Audience on Social Media
No matter what niche you choose to center your dream job on, your next step involves social media. You’re going to be using social media a lot, especially if you decide to open your own business virtually, or physically. It’s where you’re going to host advertisements, engage with your audience and keep up with the latest trends your niche has. There are many platforms to try, but for newcomers, it’s highly recommended you go with TikTok and Instagram.
TikTok has become one of the most popular platforms to date and has seen even more useful than Google. This platform lets you both advertise, showcase, and see what the latest trends are. Instagram can also be used in the same way, but it’s nowhere near as popular or used as TikTok. That being said, Instagram has become one of the main hubs for social media marketing alongside Facebook. You should also consider using Google for PPC ads once things start to take off a bit. You can create tailored ads to reach your target audience specifically.
