Potential employers have been known to troll LinkedIn prior to placing job ads, so you may get a job before you realize the company is even hiring.

Update Your Resume
In addition to making sure that your resume is flawless in grammar and punctuation, you are going to want to keep it as current as possible.
If you start taking online classes or tests, make sure it is on your resume. Even prior to completion you can list it as “in progress” so potential hiring managers know that you are in the process of furthering your education and skill set.

Make a Brand
If there is one thing that will help you the most in getting a great job is establishing a brand.
While many out there seem to be a jack of all trades, if you are an expert in your niche you’re more apt to be hired for that niche. Finding your brand, what you do and how you do it, can be as simple as looking over your past jobs and education. What has stood out the most, what is your passion? Build on this and start to mold your social media accounts and your page to this new brand.
Make a list of about 20 companies that you could see yourself working in some manner. Target these companies first and each day make a connection to one of them.
Connections can be in the form of a phone call or email, or simply connecting through social media. As you network among these top companies, you’ll need to be professional and prepared, because they’ll want to see you at your best.

Stay Up to Date on Your Trade
Whenever you are trying to get hired, you need to make sure you are staying current on new innovations and trends in your field.
The worst thing possible is for a hiring manager to comment on a hot new trend and you know nothing about it, that will date you and send your application to the bottom of the stack. Stay hip and aware of everything going on, plugged in to the latest and greatest.
Job searches can be long and tiring, especially if you aren’t doing it properly.
