What is Business Services?

Methods to Create Business Services

Business services can be created on SL1 using two means. Below are described the two Business Methods,

1. Option-1

Business services can be created on the business page in the below-mentioned order. This pre-defined order helps ease your job of finding new services.

  • Device Service:

The varied IT devices or components delivering different services are monitored using them. These include a DNS, a group of collectors, or all the devices incorporated in a particular region.

  • IT Service:

The IT service comes into force to monitor the services provided by an IT department. You can think of an IT service as a means through which we can manage how all the relatable device services work together to make an IT service work smoothly and uninterruptedly.

  • Business Service:

Every business department is formed or composed of one or more IT departments. The business service monitors your organization’s service to make a good product.

2. Option-2

You can consider the second alternative option based on your organization’s needs. It is a flexible approach and requires you to understand your business services.

Here a wizard to create a service model guides you. Unlike the previous 3-tier method, this is an N-tier service model. There are multiple nested or connected service points here. You can name them based on the services and terminologies used in your company.

The Business Services Page

The business service page is used to display the tilt of services like devices, IT, and business that you are using within your organization. Besides the availability, it also shows the health and risks associated with each service.


There is a set of availability rules to show whether the service is available or not. The availability of any service does not depend merely on its presence or absence.

A service is marked if SL1 can collect data from it or whether the device is usable or unusable. A “0” shows that a service is unavailable, and a “1” is marked to show that the service is available.


Health demonstrates the present status of the device service. The device’s service depends upon its processing power and the performance of the device. For SL1-CDB, the lines behind the device show how efficiently the CDB handles the data. A color-coded scheme is used to handle the severity of the device. The devices are numbered from zero to 100 based on their health. It showed when the device was temporarily unavailable due to a power cut. A lower health number marks such situations.


The risk associated with critical events, swap usage, or insufficient disk space for database loggings can cause problems if not resolved. The trouble shows how close service to an undesirable condition is. The risk is indicated in terms of percentage from 0 to 100. Here 0% is the safest risk associated with a service, and 100% is the worst or most risky condition.


  • The commercial service can be measured using SL1. It can be thought of as a quick way to determine if the service is available or working as intended for a customer or end-user.
  • You can look into a banking example where the bank needs to ensure that its retail banking is open worldwide. The below workflow can be used to configure your services on SL1,
  • The worldwide spread of the bank has led to multiple offices worldwide. Multiple device departments are created to handle such scenarios that organize devices by region or position. The company enhances all of its devices to suitable device services.
  • The company creates multiple IT departments that display the various device services from the preceding step. It even includes a separate IT department for online banking, ATM systems, and networks.

For every retail service, the company invests in creating a separate business service. It includes creating business services for all IT sections mentioned in the second step for all its retail outlets.

With the growing demand and expanding business services market, the need to study and develop innovative ideas is also expanding.
