EngineeringIt’s a really tough job market for college grads these days and, while Engineering careers tend to pay quite well, much depends on the specialty and demand for that specialty.  If you are thinking of a career in Engineering or if you are already an Engineer, then it makes sense to know the best career choices including salary expectations and leads on where to find a job. According to an article in the Huffington Post on unemployment by college degree, the unemployment rate for general engineers is 7%. Sounds high? Not if you consider that the unemployment for workers under age 25 is over 16%. A degree in engineering is not a guarantee that you will land a job, but there is a better chance with these hot engineering careers.

  • Computer Engineering
    • What They Do – Ohio University has the following regarding Computer Engineers – “Computer Engineering (CpE) – a combination of electrical engineering and computer science – deals with the study of computing ranging from microprocessors to supercomputers. Computer engineers are electrical engineers who specialize in either software design, hardware design or both”.

    • What They Do – According to About.com, chemical engineers apply a knowledge of chemistry (plus other engineering disciplines) to help turn raw materials into useful, everyday products.

    • Education and Training Requirements – Chemical engineers will need a bachelor’s degree from an accredited school/program in order to gain entry into the profession. They should become licensed and will have to gain some work experience as well as pass some additional exams.
