Winter Break – Do You Have a Job Search Plan Yet?

Time flies. For those who are graduating this year, there is one more semester left before graduation and entering the workforce (unless you’ve opted for Grad School). Congratulations to those of you who planned ahead, participated in an Intern or Co-Op Program and already have a job lined up. Congratulations as well to those of you who have a job lined up after graduation as a result of Career Fairs, focused job search or any other method that has worked. For those that must still find a job after graduation, there is still plenty of time to put a plan in motion (if you haven’t already done so). I’ve listed a few prior posts that were dedicated to College Students and Grads, it’s worth taking another look.

The basic plan hasn’t changed:

  • Utilize you College Career Office (ton’s of resources)
  • Participate in College Career Fairs (your College’s or others)
  • Build and leverage your Network (friends, family, LinkedIn, etc.)
  • Prepare your marketing materials (Resume, Cover Letters, interview questions)
  • Prepare your marketing plan (companies, recruiters, job boards, etc.)

I’ve listed and reviewed a few company career sites that focus on College students and recent Grads:

  • Walt Disney’s Student Programs – Disney has four excellent programs that are geared to students. They are: Disney College Program, Disney Professional Internships, Disney CareerStart Program and Disney ImagiNations.  Each program is fairly extensive and is certainly worth a look.
  • P&G – P&G has a special College Recruiting Program. They have an Intern/Co-op, free online courses, a program called “Successway” which is a Co-op program targeted for administrative and technical staff and an extensive US College recruiting program (click here). There is also a link for you to apply directly to P&G in the event your school is not on their recruiting list.
  • Office Depot – The office supply company has a very good College Recruiting site. You can select from Corporate Internship Opportunities, Entry Level Opportunities, College/University Partnerships and much more. They offer a broad range of career choices, from Marketing and Advertising to e-commerce.
  • Raytheon – Raytheon’s college recruitment site is jam packed with information and resources. Divided into three main topics – “Real Business” (culture, ethics, diversity and business lines), “Real Opportunities” (finding a job, campus recruiting events, careers, etc.) and “Real Life” (Internships and Co-ops, Intern Profiles and people).

Good luck in your search.

  • [...] As a College student, planning and job search should really start very early in your college career. Internships, Co-Op programs, volunteering and College Career Fairs require months and sometimes years of planning. Unfortunately, many College students don’t begin to plan until their Junior (and sometimes Senior) year. The good news is that there are excellent resources available to help you plan your job search, even if you start late (see Winter Break – Do You Have a Job Search Plan Yet?). [...]
