Who’s Hiring from the Fortune 500?

Time to review some Company Career sites and pick up where we left off on the Fortune 500. As mentioned in previous posts, Company Career sites are gaining in importance as companies try to minimize their recruiting fees in a tough economy. In order to narrow your choices of companies you need to use some standard for comparison. The Fortune 500 is a good standard to use.

  • Chevron – Number 3 on the Fortune 500 list, Chevron is the 2nd largest U.S. oil Company. Chevron provide several options for job search: Pick your Country, What’s your Skill? and College Recruiting. Their main career page provide background on the company as well. Search for jobs in North America returned 65 career opportunities. Clicking on “Types of Jobs” revels jobs by functional category (Accounting, Engineering, Legal, etc.). You can register on the site, create a profile and track the jobs you’ve applied for. Lastly, the Students and Recent Grads link provides information on Internship Programs and Recruiting Events.
  • AT&T – AT&T is the result of several large mergers in telecommunications. Number 10 on the Fortune 500 list as well as Americas Most Admired Companies list, the iPhone has helped push AT&T up on the list. The main career page provides background on the company, a Student Relations link (Internships and Development Programs) and Getting Started. The Getting Started link leads to a page which divides the opportunities into Occupational (Technicians, Call Centers, Sales, etc.), Professional & Management (Consulting, IT, College Recruiting) and Wireless (Retail Sales, Customer Service). This page also has additional background on the company. A quick search returned 104 job opportunities.
  • Valero Energy – 16 on the Fortune 500 list and also on the Best Companies list, Valero is the largest oil refiner in the North America. The Valero Career Site offers 4 choices: Retail Sales Openings, Shared Commitment (an overview of the company), Career Opportunities and College Intern Opportunities. The Retail Sales link asks for basic information before allowing a search. The Career Oportunities link returned 59 opportunities. There were 5 Intern Opportunities when I checked. You can submit a resume or go to the career center which provides management of your resume, jobs applied for and search agents.
  • Publix Super Markets – Publix is the largest employee-owned supermarket in the US. They are 107 on the Fortune 500 list and also on the Best Companies list. The main career page has links to a company overview, career opportunities (stores, pharmacy, corporate offices, distribution, etc.) and how to apply. The Career Opportunities has a number of options for job search, including Management, non-management positions, Distribution Center plus more. Following the links on these pages provides additional informaiton regarding how to apply. I did not see an overall search function.

Good luck in your search.
