Who’s Hiring from the Fortune 500 Vol 10

RocksThe trick is in what one emphasizes. We either make ourselves miserable, or we make ourselves strong. The amount of work is the same.” – Carlos Castaneda

Times have been tough, and we’ve all had to watch out for falling rocks. Some of us got hit by them and some of us managed to escape and live for another day. Losing a job is challenging on many different fronts. For one (aside from the stress), there is the financial impact and of course having to tell you friends and family. Once you get over all of this you still need to look for another job. Like just about everything in life, you can make it hard or easy and, like the quote says – “the amount of work is the same”.

Working our way through the Fortune 500 list, we pass the 50 mark this post on our way to # 500, there were over 1,250 job opportunities across today’s links. Good stuff, but what about other lists? I cover some from time to time (mostly Fortune lists).  I’ve listed a few additional lists for your job research material.

List of Lists:

Company Career Sites:

  • Lowe’s – Ranked 47 on the list, Lowe’s is a “do it yourself” retailer similar to Home Depot. As with many retailers, there are a number of career choices when looking at their Careers page. For Lowe’s, these are: Stores, Distribution or Corporate Headquarters. These categories are listed at the top middle of the page. The top of the page also has tabs, one of which is for College Recruiting. The Job Search link (a tab at the top or a box on the middle right hand side of the page) leads to a search engine which allows job search across the entire company. There is a Hot Jobs box on the right hand side of the page categorized by job function. Interestingly, you can subscribe to this section of the page via an RSS link. Searching across the entire company returned 152 job opportunities when I checked.
  • Time Warner – The Time Warner, ranked 48 on the list) is known as a media company (magazines, cable TV, AOL and more). Their career site is split by jobs by industry, interest and location.  You can search openings and submit your resume for future matches (from the right hand side of the screen). There were 650 job opportunities (across all of their divisions) when I checked the site.
  • Sears Holdings – Most of us have heard of the retailer Sears, which is ranked 49 on the list. While fairly high up on the Fortune list, Sears (which combined with Kmart several years ago) is struggling through the recession. Their careers page has links a the top of the page for Areas of Opportunity, College Programs, Events and Search Jobs. The center of the page has links for opportunities by type of job (Entry Level Hourly, Professional/Salaried and College/Military Programs. Clicking on Search jobs brings up two choices – Professional or Entry Level jobs.
  • Safeway – Safeway is a food retailer operating more than 1,700 stores in North America and ranked 50 on this year’s list. Their careers page has an “In Careers” section on the top left hand side of the page with links like Why Work For Us and Store Positions. Center page is “Your Career Path” where you can click on similar links to the ones mentioned earlier. There were 312 job opportunities when I checked the page.
  • Supervalu – A food and drug store, Supervalu is ranked 51 on this year’s list. Their careers page is colorful and interesting. Tabs at the top for Who We Are, Find Your Fit, Search Jobs and more. The center of the page has some background information. Click Search Jobs to link to a function rich  jobs page. Links at the top for job search, work bench, profile, search agents and more.  There were 126 job opportunities when I checked the site.

Good luck in your search.
