Who’s Hiring from the “Best Companies” – Vol X

If you’ve been following the “Best Companies” series (from Fortune’s “Best Companies to Work for”) then you should already have at least a few leads to job opportunities and understand the process of direct job leads (going to the source of the hire). From time to time it looks like I’ve skipped a number or two, this is because I’m skipping companies that have been covered on other posts on this site. With this post we will have hit the half-way mark for the series which means we will have potentially twice as many leads by the time we wrap it up.

  • DreamWorks Animation SKG – Number 47 on the list (and new to the list this year), you know who they are if you’ve ever gone to the movies. Their website and career page have amazing animation (as you would expect from an animation company). With slightly more than 1,600 employees, they increased staff 18% last year (246 new hires) which is pretty amazing. Their main career page has three choices: Explore current openings, explore DWA internships and explore PDI internships. Clicking on their “explore current openings” revels approximately 30-40 job openings. Clicking on any job will provide additional background with a link to “how to apply”. They do not have a resume post ability, but you can email your resume.
  • Mattel – The toymaker is number 48 on the list (up from #70 last year). They have over 33,000 employees (with 27,000 outside of the US).  Their career site provides links to Jobs, Benefits, Diversity and Campus Recruiting. They provide a direct email address for those needing assistance in contacting them for a job. Clicking on Search Job Listings links to a career center where post your resume, update your resume, review jobs applied for and sign up for a job alert. A quick search returned 43 job openings.
  • Intuit – This software company, known for products such as Quicken and Turbotax, has over 7,600 employees and hired 24 last year. Their 8th year on the list, they are ranked 49. Their main career page has a number of links to information on the company on the right hand side of the page and information about careers on the left hand side of the page. A “Search Now” button is in the middle of the page where you can conduct a search.  There were 108 opportunities when I check the site. You can register and upload your resume. Clicking on Apply on any job takes you to the registration page (if you’ve not already registered) or asks you to log-in.
  • Burns & McDonnell – # 50 and halfway through the list, Burns & McDonnell is a  engineering consulting company. Their main careers page provides an overview of the company with large box links to “Search Jobs” and “Grad & Intern” Job listings on the left-hand side of the page. On the top left there are links to Benefits, Culture and FAQs in addition to the two buttons mentioned above. You can post your resume and create job search engines. There were 341 job opportunities when I checked the site.
  • Best benefits: Perkfinder – Are you looking for the company with the best perks? This link, also by Fortune, will help you do that from the top 100 list of best companies. It lists all of the companies, you pick your perk(s) and it hi-lights the companies that match (you can even pick multiple perks).

Good luck in your search.
