A few more posts on the Best Companies theme and we will have covered the entire 100 Best Companies to Work For list from Fortune. But today’s post is going to take a slight twist and review similar lists which can provide additional resources in your job search. We will pick up on the list where we left off in a few posts. The lists covered in this post, while not unknown, will provide additional balance to your search.
- Forbes Largest Private Companies – Forbes Magazine, a competitor of Fortune Magazine, also publishes lists. This particular list covers the largest private companies and is a much larger list (18 pages and 441 companies). Like many of these lists, many companies you would have heard of and some you may not know. Clicking on any of the companies will lead to a summary page for that company which typically lists background information as well as the company’s website. Once on the company’s website, look for a link to Careers and begin your search.
- Employee Ownership 100 – This is a list of America’s Largest Majority Employee-Owned Companies. The companies on this list are at least 50% owned by employees and range from large companies like Publix Supermarkets (over 142,000 employees) to small companies of 1,000 employees. Unlike the last list, this list does not provide links, but you could certainly find the company’s website and take it from there. Why do we care about this list? Companies that are majority owned by employees are obviously companies that care about their staff.
- CollegeGrad – Top Entry Level Employers – Calling all Grads! This is a great list for College Grads (or about to be Grads), those looking for entry level jobs and those interested in Internships. This list, provided by CollegeGrad.com, has 277 companies with links to summary pages for each company. Better yet, the summary pages have links to the companies’ websites and their career sites. As if that was not enough, the main page as tabs for Interns, Entry Level and more. This list will keep you busy for some time and hopefully lead to the job of your choice.
- 100 Best Places to Work in IT – This resource, provided by Computerworld, allows you to go straight to the list, use criteria to filter the list or click on any state (and then city) on a map of the US to find a listing of companies in that city. Click on the company link to pull up a summary on that company. The company pages provide additional background as well as a link to the companies’ website. As mentioned earlier, once on the company’s website, find the link to “Careers”.
- Best Companies for Workers over 50 – What about more “mature” workers you may ask? Not to worry, there is a list for over 50 workers as well. This particular resource is provided by AARP, provides links to both the best domestic companies as well as the best international companies. Click on either link to lead to the list of companies. Click on the company of your choice and you will be led to a page that has a comprehensive review of the company with a link to the company’s website as well. You know the drill once you get to the company page (if not, just read above).
Good luck in your search.
