Who’s Hiring from Forbes Most Trustworthy Companies List – Vol II
“Never trust anything that can think for itself if you can’t see where it keeps its brain.” – J. K. Rowling, Harry Potter and The Chamber of Secrets, 1999
Now there is a quote that not only pertains to fantasy, but also makes sense in the real world too, and you know who I’m talking about. But what about in the business world? Can a company actually be trustworthy? I say yes (even if you can’t see where it keeps its brain). You’ve been there, you go to a store to buy a large ticket item and you get the hard sell from the salesman. Is he telling the truth or just trying to make the sale? At the corporate level “trustworthy” takes on a whole new dimension. We have many examples of companies that are not (or were not) trustworthy. Enron is a good example of untrustworthy and is the exact opposite of the companies that are on Forbes’ list. No need to explain why you would want to work for a trustworthy company, so on to the list.
- Accenture – Also on the Fortune’s Most Admired list, Accenture is best known for management consulting, technology services and outsourcing. Their career site has tabs at the top for Working Here, Career Options, Search Jobs and more. The middle of the page has a brief paragraph about the company and a number of other career search tools below this. You can explore where you fit by clicking “Find where you fit”. You can also explore career opportunities based on skill. Search Jobs requires that you use a drop down list of all of the countries where Accenture is located. Click you country from the list to see opportunities. Clicking the US, as an example, returned 632 job opportunities when I checked the site.
- Loews – Loews is a diversified financial services company headquartered in NY and is also ranked 237 on the Forbes 2000 list. Their careers page provides a brief company overview with links on the left hand side of the page for Corporate and Subsidiaries job search. There were 5 job opportunities on the Corporate page when I checked. Clicking on the Subsidiaries page reveals links to 5 subsidiaries where you can search each subsidiary separately. As an example, Loews Hotels had 61 job opportunities when I checked the site. The other subsidiaries include CNA, Diamond Offshore, Highmount Exploration and Boardwalk Pipeline Partners.
- Shaw Communications – Shaw is a communications company with businesses in broadband cable television, Internet, Digital Phone and telecommunications services. Their careers page has an overview of the company followed by a listing for an upcoming careers fair. There is a link for career opportunities near the top of the page and a careers help desk link at the bottom of the page. There were 71 job opportunities when I checked the site.
- Medco Health Solutions – Medco, which is also on the Fortune 500 list, is a pharmacy benefits manager. Their careers page is crisp and simple and leads with Career Opportunities with links for job search and diversity information. This is followed by company background. Click on “Search for exciting opportunities at Medco” and then Medco Career Website to reach the job search engine. There were 141 job opportunities when I checked the site.
- Kohl’s – A retail store company, their careers page leads with “building great futures”. The page is filled with 5 boxes representing the different career options: Campus Recruiting, Corporate Headquarters, New York Office, Stores and Distribution Centers. You need to check each of these career choices to see the available jobs, there is no one place to check jobs across all categories.
Good luck in your search.
