If you work in the financial services industry, the bad news is that it was hit the hardest from the recent financial crisis. The good news is that it was the first to bounce back. And while some of this recent success is due to less competition, much of it is due to a smaller work force. That being said, most financial institutions are hiring and if you are out of work or looking to make a move, now is the time to make the move.  Today’s post covers a few different avenues of job search for Financial Services.

Financial Institution Company Career Sites:

  • Morgan Stanley – Another big firm on Wall Street, their careers page has tabs at the top for Why Morgan Stanley, University Programs, Search & Apply and more. Center page includes links for background on the company while the right hand side of the page has two links for job search. Bottom right hand side of the page includes a link for featured opportunities. Clicking on the “Search All Jobs” link at the bottom of the page leads to a full page where jobs must be searched by division where there were over 1,000 career opportunities when I checked the site.
  • JP Morgan Chase – Another well known financial institution, their career site provides an overview of the company and then has links for Experienced Hires and University Programs.  There is a link for “Jobs in Demand” as well as a “Search Jobs” tab.  As with the other sites, it is worthwhile to register. There were over 5,200 job opportunities when I checked the site.
  • Bank of America – Bank of America, which now owns Merrill Lynch following the financial crisis, is another one of those “Banks on Wall Street” (like JP Morgan Chase). Their careers center leads with an company overview, followed by selecting your country so that you can begin your job search. The left hand side of the screen has links for Job Search, Job Areas, Lines of Business, Campus Recruiting and more. There were over 5,050 job opportunities in the US when I checked the site.

Financial Services Jobs using Job Search Engines:

  • Hotjobs Finance – I’m sure you’ve heard of Hotjobs. The link the the left is a Finance related search (returned over 5,900 job opportunities). This is a good start. Now you need to customize this to your needs. At the top of the page you can filter by keyword and location. On the left hand side of the page are additional filters that will help you narrow your search. Once you’ve done this, click on jobs that match, you will get all the information you need and you can click “apply now” if the job fits.
  • BankingBoard.com – The BankingBoard focuses on Banking and Finance. Homepage has job seeker information on the left-hand side and allows login, career resources and resume posting. Featured jobs are shown down the left-hand side of the page and specific industries (such as Escrow and Real Estate) are listed in the middle of the page. The generic job search link is at the top of the page and this takes you to a traditional search page. The site is well organized and easy to follow.

Financial Services Industry Trade Groups:

  • Yahoo – Browse Groups about Financial Professionals – The link to the left provides a search of financial professional groups on Yahoo. There are quite a few, so you will want to narrow this down to those that meet your needs. What’s the benefit? You can meet other professionals in your field who may have job leads or ideas that will help you in your search.

Good luck in your search.
