The “Best Companies to Work for” Vol IX
We are quickly approaching the halfway mark with the Best Companies list. In addition to making this list, many of these companies are not as well known (even with making the list). This makes it likely that the competition for job openings will be less than better known companies, so take advantage of that if you can.
- Plante & Moran – Ranked 42 on this year’s list (up from 44), Plante & Moran is the nation’s 12th largest certified public accounting and business advisory firm. With over 1,500 employees, they added 62 jobs last year and have over 80 job openings as of January. A very simple main career page with two choices – College Student or Experienced Hire. The Experience Hire links to a page with information on the company and benefits. Click job search on the left hand side where you can search jobs by category and post your resume.
- Rackspace Hosting – You need to know where to look to find this company’s career site. Ranked 43 (down from 32), Rackspace is an Internet Hosting company. With almost 2,000 employees, Rackspace added 729 jobs (59%) last year (amazing). There were 100 job openings as of January. Another simple career site. Info on the company, view job openings or browse and submit your resume. The view job openings page also has a link for Student Job Listings.
- NuStar Energy - The first year on the list for this company, the pipeline operator and refinery (a spinoff of Valero) was ranked 44. With slightly more than 1,300 employees, 245 jobs were added last year and there were slightly more than 40 job openings as of January. The career site has some information on the company and a link to job openings. From the job openings page, you must click again to get to the real job openings page. You can browse current openings and post your resume to the site.
- King’s Daughters Medical Cntr – If you thought this company was in the medical field, you are right. 45 on this year’s list (way up from 63 last year), this company has slightly more than 3,000 employees and added 91 jobs last year. They have over 60 job openings as of mid January. Their career site is fairly simple, it lists all of the current openings. From the left hand side of the page you can apply for a position, send your resume or fax/mail your application.
- American Fidelity Assurance -Ranked 46 on this years list (ranked last year), American Fidelity has 1,500 employees and added 134 jobs last year. American Fidelity Assurance Company is one of the largest privately owned life insurance companies in the United States. In addition to information on the company, their career site has two options: Home Office Open Positions or Field Sales Positions. Clicking on these will give you a list of current openings, a job search function and the ability to register and upload your resume. They had over 70 job openings as of mid January.
