“Ugliness is in a way superior to beauty because it lasts.” – Serge Gainsbourg
Imagine, you are at your company’s annual sales conference. Hundreds of attendees from all over the world are attending this event in Las Vegas. It is several days and nights of drinking, gambling and boring conferences (did I mention drinking?). Anyway, tonight is the main event. It is a “black tie” affair (just about the only time you ever need to wear your tux). You managed to get a table close to the front of the stage this year and you’ve known most of the people at your table for almost your entire career. The MC (the Global Head of Sales) is blabbering away, and all you hear is “blah blah blah YOUR NAME“. Impossible, you’ve just won the “salesman of the year” award, unseating the former holder of this prestigious award who, by the way, held the title for 10 years in a row. But now the pressure is on, how long can you stay at the top?
It’s great news when you win an award for some achievement. The tough part is that there is always an expectation that you will continue to achieve every year. The same is true of the Best Companies to Work for. Are they a “flash in the pan” or are they in for the long haul? The vast majority of the companies on the list have been on the list multiple times, many for years in a row. We continue our countdown of the Best Companies to Work for.
