Sharing your Job Search Experiences

While I’ve covered most topics associated with job search resources, I’ve neglected to point out one of the most important resources – each other.  Sharing real life experiences with each other is an important source of information.  Thanks to a reader for pointing out a website that does just this (first review below), I’ll cover a few of these sites in this post.

  • WikiJob -  This site provides a wide range of resources, such as the interview and application process for specific employers.  Employer specific interview tips and what to expect during the interview process are covered as well.  There are forums were members can ask specific questions about employers from other members, application techniques and much more.  The site also allows resume uploads as well. As the name implies (wiki), members can contribute content which will, in turn, make the site that much more useful.  This site is different from anything covered so far and is definitely worth a look.   I will also add a link to the blogroll for this site.
  • About.com Job Search Discussion Forum – About.com offers a job search discussion forum.  This is more narrow than wikijob in that the forum is limited to specific questions and answers.  It does, however, give users the opportunity to review existing questions/answers and comments as well as post their own.  In addition, the site offers some topic specific folders (only a few so far).
  • Career Advice Forum – cvtips.com is an interesting job search site which has a fairly extensive job advice forum arranged by topic.  In addition to the forum, which also allows posting, the site offers the traditional resources (job search, post your resume, cover letters etc.).  The main focus of the site seems to be CVs.

Good luck in your search.

Stupid people are waiting and clever ones act. This is what I was taught from childhood. The firm, in which I work at the moment, is undergoing significant changes. And, unfortunately, these changes are not in favor of the staff. So I decided to act instead of waiting for the day when I will be thrown into the street. Today I received a dozen offers from Cglobalstaffing.com, though I logged onto this site just a few days ago. All the suggestions I received, are worthy of attention. But I’m not going to hurry and will take a final decision only when the correct decision would be obvious. Fortunately, the conditions of cooperation with Cglobalstaffing.com allow expecting the most suitable offers.

These sites look great and I definitely agree that the best resources are people. I’m building a site o be almost a Facebook guidance counselor where people in your desired field can give you great career advice and access to jobs.

It’s super alpha but you can check it out and let me know what you think at http://apps.facebook.com/careerpathways
