Most Admired Companies – Who’s Hiring – Vol II

Most admired companies, what does that mean? Fortune teamed with the Hay Group (and has worked with them since 1997) to help come up with the list. The process is too long to list here, but if you are interested go to “How we identify and rank the Most Admired” to get the full story behind the survey. On that note, let’s continue with the list (which, I believe, includes over 300 companies).

  • FedEx – Tied for number 7 this year, everyone knows what FedEx does. Their career page leads with a video (which you can skip if you want). There are tabs across the middle where you can Job Search, click on your job agent (assuming you’ve visited before), Job Cart, Areas of Talent and more. You can paste your resume in the middle of the page and have the search engine try to find a match based on that. Select a country to the right and enter your criteria to search for a job. You can post your resume, create a job agent and search by area of talent.
  • Southwest Airlines – Also tied at number 7, Southwest is well known for customer service, a great place to work and great management. Their career page starts with pictures of its employees. You can click on View Job Listings (with a separate search for pilots) or view benefits and culture (from the right). There is a listing of all of the awards won by the company following the pictures. Clicking on View Job Listings links to a page where you can register and search for jobs using several criteria.
  • General Electric – Recently hit hard by the credit crunch due to its GE Capital unit, GE is Number 9 on the list and is a well diversified company. Their career site provides an overview of the company and splits their main page by experienced hires and university student opportunities (with several choices). Top left hand side of the page also has a special link for US Military Veterans. Selecting Start Your Job Search links to a generic search page where you can register or click search jobs. There were 1,685 jobs when I checked the site.
  • Microsoft – Everyone knows this software giant who ranked 10 on the list. From the careers page, select your location from the center of the page. On the left-hand side you will find additional links for locations as well. Select your location and link to MS’ robust career search page. You can register from the center of the page or select from a wide range of choices on the left hand side (Career Paths, Search Jobs, Create Job Agent, International Jobs and submit your resume). There were 643 jobs when I checked the site.
  • Wal-Mart Stores – Wal-Mart out-performed all other stocks on the Dow and is ranked 11 on the list. Their main career page has an interactive map of careers where you can select your career type. There is an “Apply” button at the bottom of the page along with a special link for the Military. The left hand side of the page has a very long list of search alternatives, including Recruiting Events (worth a look). Looks like you must search via each individual category (rather than across all categories).

Good luck in your search.
