Continuing on the “targeted job search theme”, you should consider other resources in addition to targeted job search sites. Also consider that a targeted job search could be directed to a location rather than a profession (like wanting to relocate to Chicago or Los Angeles) or any other job search focus. Some examples of additional information resources to consider are:
- Trade Associations and Unions:
- Unions.org – Provides a list of Unions
- Professional Associations – Yahoo’s list of professional associations
- Trade Publications – Yahoo’s list of trade publications
- Career Fairs – National Career Fairs (in conjunction with Monster.com) list of job fairs
- State and City job search sites – Most states have a career site. Two examples are listed below
- www.labor.state.ny.us – New York State’s site
- www.labor.ca.gov – California’s site.
Now on to some search sites.
- HR.com – This site is dedicated to those looking for Human Resources jobs. The main page is very busy, but it is jam packed with lots of great information. Clicking on “Careers” will take you to the link that allows job search. Although the site indicates that you must be logged in to use this function, I was able to search without being logged in. There are other resources on the site like blogs, webcasts, etc.
- .tech_centric - Computer, Tech & IT Jobs Search are the focus of this job board. The left-hand side of the board allows job search and you can see a list of featured recruiters below the job search function. You can post your resume, look at the latest Tech news and browse jobs by various categories.
- Jobs4point0.com – This site is designed for candidates 40 and older. You can search for jobs from the main page, get the latest newsletter, get resume tips for those over 40 and see a list of “over 40″ employers of the month.
- USAjobs.opm.gov – This is the official job site of the US Federal Government. You can search for jobs, get help in creating a resume, view featured jobs and view featured employers (like the Smithsonian Institute). There are links for Veterans as well a link to Studentjobs.gov which is a focused job search site for High School, College and Graduate School students.
Good luck in your search.
