“Christmas is not a time nor a season, but a state of mind. To cherish peace and goodwill, to be plenteous in mercy, is to have the real spirit of Christmas.” – Calvin Coolidge
Time flies, can it really be Christmas again? By now you’ve opened your presents and, with any luck, there is no coal in the stocking this year. Probably no job in there either (can’t have everything). At the end of the day (or maybe tomorrow), when you start to tire of your new toys, you should start to think about the tools you need for your job search. And, like any good box of tools, no matter how many you have you never have enough (or the right tool). So, while you ponder your New Year’s Resolutions (one of which is probably to change the job you’re in or get the job you don’t have), take a look at the tools listed below and think about how you will leverage or improve your tools for job search and cross off at least one of your New Year’s Resolutions. The Job Hunt is on! Ho Ho Ho, Merry Christmas and to all a good job!
- Job Search Tools – Plugins, toolbars, gadgets, homepage displays, Facebook Job Search, they are all here! Whether you use Firefox or Facebook, there is a tool for you on this list. Job Alerts are listed as well, Take a look at this list and pick those that will give you the edge in your hunt.
- JOB SEARCH TOOLS & SKILLS – This list, from Virginia Tech’s Division of Student Affairs, provides a different (and essential) list of tools. This list is very comprehensive – from Resumes to cover letters and leveraging email, this list provides help with all of the tools you need in your job search. The most interesting is the last one on the list – psychometric job selection tests.
- 70+ Tools For Job Hunting 2.0 – From, of all places, mashable.com, another comprehensive list of tools (70+ to be somewhat exact). From job search sites to online resume generators to old (at least recently old) standards such as Indeed.com. But, for every tool on the list that you’ve heard of, there are probably 5 more that you haven’t. Certainly worth a look.
- Best Job Hunting Tools On The Net – More tools for you to look at. This list is from interbiznet.com and has a good mix of different types of resources. The list is short but good. There is also a link to top job sites which I cover in the next paragraph below.
- Top 100 Job Site Niches – 2009 – Internetinc.com provides this list. A brief overview, followed by several embedded links. This is followed by the top 30 job site niches (like sales, medical, etc.). Click on any of these to go directly to the list for the particular job niche. Don’t overlook the tabs at the top of this site for Job Sites, Lists and research.
Good luck in your search.
