Time to review some job search boards again and I thought this would be a good time to continue my theme “The Road Less Traveled” which focuses on job websites which are not as well know and, therefore, maybe not as many people are looking at the jobs on those sites (less competition).
- Mymatrixjobs.com – Another job board with a slight twist. You can join this site for the usual benefits (job agents, resume uploads and job search). This site will pay you for referrals and many (if not all) of the jobs are contract jobs. The main page has a simple search on top and a login on the left. Does not look there are many jobs on this site (but it only takes one).
- Vitruva.com – Their tag line is “jobs without searching”, an interesting concept. This job search site is still in beta. There are two options from the main screen: “Get Started” or the live demo. Also on the main page is a changing list of leading employers. Clicking on “Get Started” links to a registration page (you must register to use the site.). You have the option to have your information public or private. Once signed up, there are tabs for Profile, job matches, career center and account settings. You must create a profile before you can use job matches. The concept is that the site will automatically match jobs for you based on your profile.
- NYCareerZone.com – This site helps you explore your career path and is designed more for students or recent hires. The center of the page has icons which cover several major career paths. At the top of the page are tabs for Assess yourself, My Portfolio, Search and Resources. Clicking you Search allows you to explore any career path in much more depth.
- NYJobZone – This site is run by the NY State Department of Labor. The site is free and you can build and store resumes, search for training and review career opportunities. The right hand side of the page has a box for “Who’s getting Hired” which shows the types of jobs which have the largest number of openings. Once you register and go to the main page there is a wealth of information, tools and resources. You can search for a job by using the job search box in the top right hand corner of the page.
- Mediabistro.com – This site is a career community for media professionals. There are tabs at the top for Courses, Jobs, Events, Blogs and more. The center of the page has media news. The left hand side of the page has job listings, featured companies and “jobs of the day”. Below this is a freelance marketplace listed by area of expertise. Click on the Jobs tab at the top to see job listings (there were 604 jobs when I checked).
Good luck in your search.
