This time of year most people are focused on the Holidays which are in full swing. Many people plan vacations (or are taking at least a few days off) and it seems like no one is thinking about job search (except those who are out of work or worried that their job is at risk). While there is a significant slow down in actual hiring during this time of year, I think it is the perfect time to ramp up your job search and ensure you are on everyone’s radar for the New Year. Today’s post includes a few articles on this topic.
- “Get Into the Holiday Spirit for a New Job” – This article, by the WSJ’s MarketWatch website gives tips on how to leverage the Holiday season to jump start your job search and, as indicated in my intro, can put you ahead of the “competition” come January 2nd. Don’t wait out the Holiday season, be proactive in your search.
- “Thanksgiving to New Year’s Job-Search Doldrums Got You Down?” – I found this article on Career Hub and, although it was written in November, it is still current. The theme is repeated in this article. Since most people take a break from their job search during the Holidays, use this to get an edge. Some of the themes are repeated here, but it is certainly worth a read (and then get started on your search).
- “5 Steps for Surviving the Job Search Doldrums” – Another article (by CSO Online) with some additional points on how to leverage this time of year in your search (such as reevaluating yourself and do your homework), but the common theme is use the Holidays to NETWORK!
Santa’s Resume – Okay, time to look at the lighter side of job hunting for a minute. Apparently, even Santa has a resume and it is certainly worth a read. While I’m not sure I would use his format or theme, it is well written. What is scary is how many of his accomplishments look like mine (and maybe yours too). Thanks to Elite Resumes for finding this one.
Good luck in your search.
