All I Want for Christmas is a New Job

Santa will be busy this year, although I’m not sure he will have any jobs in his bag. This coming week (from today through the New Year) will be the slowest of the year, which is a perfect time to ramp up our job search. So let’s pick up the pace today and look at a few focused job search sites.

  • Mammajobs – Okay, okay, I couldn’t leave this one out. The tag line is, of course, “The Mother of All Job Search Engines“. The main page is very clean, with two tabs at the top (“Jobs” and “Web”), you want to stay on “Jobs” (the other takes you to their web search engine – and you can guess the tag line for this). Not much to report here. You have two choices to narrow your search – “What” and “Where”. There is no Advanced search capability, no resume upload, no job alerts and no sorting capabilities. The search engine is powered by Indeed.com. I would not waste my on this site.
  • TopLanguageJobs – This site, as I’m sure you’ve guessed from it’s name, focuses on language recruitment and related jobs. The top of the page has a quick search where you can search by Language, Industry, Location and Keyword. The left-hand side of the page has job resources (such as Podcasts and salary surveys) as well as additional search functions and the ability to login or register. The middle of the page has featured jobs, along with a brief description.
  • NicheBoards – This is a very interesting site. It is actually a listing of focused job search resources/boards. The center of the main page lists the logos &/or names of focused job search boards (such as JobsInTrucks.com and CallCenterJobs.com). The page is organized by industry. Clicking on any of these links will take you to a summary page/overview of the specific site with additional links to the referenced site. The top right-hand side of the page has a drop-down box which allows you to select a specific Niche.
  • Computerjobs – No explanation needed here. The site is well organized. There are several tabs at the top, including “IT Professionals”, “About Us” and “IT Resources”. The left-hand side of the page allows “My Account”, “Job Agent” and “Post Resume” and below these there is a click box for “Get Help” which provides some useful tips. The main part of the page provides a quick search (with an advanced search feature” followed by popular job locations. There is a quick resume upload click box (this is very helpful) and then a specialized search box which allows search by Skill, Industry or Speciality. There is a special box to create your job alert followed by a section which lists specific job skills that you can quick click. Overall, the site is very well done. They’ve managed to get all of the key links for their site on the main page without overcrowding and with easy user interface.

Have a wonderful Holiday and Good luck in your search.
